Artemis House Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cat sanctuary established in 2026 in North Central Florida. We are dedicated to giving cats a safe place to heal, decompress, and live with dignity. Many of our cats come from difficult circumstances, including abandonment, hoarding situations, medical challenges, or shelter environments where they were considered too shy, fearful, or difficult to place. Our goal is to give each cat the time, space, and care they need to feel secure and thrive.
Many rescues are primarily focused on moving animals from intake to adoption as efficiently as possible. Artemis House follows a sanctuary-based model. Some of our cats may eventually be adopted, while others may remain permanent residents. We do not expect every cat to adjust on the same timeline. We are especially interested in helping cats who need more time than a traditional shelter or rescue environment can easily provide, including shy, fearful, under-socialized, senior, medically complex, and special needs cats.
Our standards of care describe the principles that guide how we make decisions about medical treatment, housing, enrichment, adoption, population management, end of life care, and the long term wellbeing of the cats entrusted to us. They include our commitment to lifelong care for cats who are not adoptable, appropriate veterinary treatment, humane handling, secure housing, quality of life, respect for feral and unsocialized cats, and protecting wildlife while allowing cats safe access to nature. You can read our full Standards of Care here:[Read Our Standards of Care]
Yes. Humane education is an important part of our long term vision. We want Artemis House to be a place where young people and adults can learn about compassion, responsible animal care, wildlife, the environment, and the connections between how we treat animals, people, and the natural world. As the sanctuary grows, we hope to offer workshops and educational programs on animal care, responsible guardianship, wildlife protection, coexistence with nature, and compassionate community values. We also want those principles to be visible in how we care for the cats, manage the land, protect wildlife, and make decisions about the sanctuary.
